haha but.. its zhang yu ming x)
not that im a fan *OOOOPS* ._.
but respect the man for what he's accomplished, people!

but facts point to his "success rate" of students and everything.
granted, that not everyone who has picked up the erhu under him has become an awesome player.
the man spent a bulk of his youth travelling all over china to pick up different "feng ge-s", not mentioning learning from the luminaries such as min hui fen.. etc.
(fun thought, majority of youth in singapore would be put off at the thought of travelling long distances like from east coast to jurong just for lessons)

heh which leads me to wonder if he could be considered, arguably "world no. 1"?
(but i must add that music can not, should not and must not be compared)

tell me, if you took lessons under Yuri Bashmet..
how much would that cost you? Cheesy

"food fight, food fight.."

hahas.he is singapore one of the 1st class erhu player.its said that there are only 2 of the 1st class erhu players in singapore.no erhu player in SCO is 1st class.so yeah.that explains his expensive 学费 compared to other erhu teachers.and just look at his students' accomplishments..yep.it may be cost quite a lot.(for some people), but its worth it Cheesy (if you practise.hahas)

true that he charges higher than most teachers. but the fact that Yo-yo Ma charges higher than Chan Wei Shing (SSO Cellist) isn't considered 'overcharging'.

Are you saying that Zhang Yu Ming and Yo-Yo Ma are of the same calibre? Are they to be mentioned in the same breath as equals? Your comment certainly does show that.

Yo-Yo Ma is an internationally renowned cellist. Mr Zhang is well known in the music circle, but obviously not as acclaimed. However, comparing Yo-Yo Ma to fellow cellists, and Mr Zhang to fellow erhu musicians, I can certainly say they have a similar respect.

AYE, PEOPLE, CHILL!  why's this thing turning into a fight. CHILL!

as for whoever's asking in this thread, i think it all depends on yourself.

it's your preference. you might like zhang yu ming, you might like huang chen da, you might like wang fang liang, you might like shen qin.

regarding the lesson fees, it's not how expensive it is.
more like it's how much you can learn.

have fun learning er hu! (:

Yours Truly, Minhui

GOOD POINT MINHUI! Cheesy its differs from person to person what, the teaching style of one teacher may not fit all, and personally i think whether a player succeeds depend largely on how much effort you put in/passion you have too!
