C.O vs CONCERT BAND!
at CO@SG on: April 24, 2009, 10:19:44 PM »

I'd like to open up for discussion a topic that everyone
probably knows about but seldom discuss with other schools' CO members!

ahh, The question is:

What is your school's CO's relationship with the concert band members?

I heard of many stories of younger CO members in secondary school life
having conflicts/or silent hatred towards Band members.

I admit I once had a bit of disliking toward them as well.
Spreading rumors against each other and such...
Does the band members in your school look down on your CO?

When I was in sec 4 our school CO bought a drumset,
We had a CCA fair in our hall,
An unplanned drum battle occurred that ended pretty quickly
and they sorta lost out rrly badly...
The result: Huge crowd of sec1s flocking towards the CO booth and away from them.
I actually feel quite guilty about that now. haha.

DO you guys have any similar stories to share about?
What is your view bout CO and Band relationship?
Do also share great stories bout CO and Band members cooperating!
HARMONY!

i have also borrow some percussion instrument from the band in my school
but after we borrow from them, stright after our practice they took it back sayinthat they need to use it. but later they told their teacher-incharge that we are the one returning them.

do you think that is the right thing to do, borrowing it to us and returning it and saying that we are the one who do not want to use it.

in my opinion, i think that since we are in the same school, we should encourage and help each other, as my band and CO have some conflict. it sounds quite childish when people studying in the school,, trying to attain awards for thw school and we are having conflicts.

so i think that CO vs concert band is a no-no in school!!

haha
in my sch, the co ppl and band ppl have a weird realtionship. smth like general dislike. but co ppl still remain friends with ppl in band. It started damn long ago. for no apparent reason.
maybe because they empty their saliva on the same floor we sit on?

hehe.
I can say my school's band got some sort of respect for CO before I graduated,

We kinda showed them other than handling our own Chinese music
we could handle their western percussion better than them =P hohoho.

after that there was a period of peace.
We respect them too for there is surely things we could learn from each other
about three years later I went back to my sec school
and saw... The same old picture haha.
maybe We're meant to be diff?

lol. my sch doesnt have a band currently (there was one, but it was a 2nd cca- you cant take band w/o taking some other cca) and it closed down last year of something, so i havent heard anything about them.

anyway, you might find it weird for my school, an english sch, to have a co and no band.

lol. anyway, i wanted to join band in sec 1. but there wasnt any, so i joined co.

I glad to say that i have never regretted my choice. CO taught me that there is a lot more to playing music. Like humility (GWH ccas look down on us). And a lot on YIN ZHUN.

Thank god I joined CO!!!

school bands aren't really worth mentioning. but semi-professional ones like philharmonic winds and sembawang symphonic winds are really quite good. their level of music can be much higher than semi-pro chinese orchestras.

Our band and CO (plus other aesthetic groups) work quite well with each other. I remember borrowing drums from our school's band, and having combined performance with choir.

NYCB And NYCO has a very harmonious and neutral relationship. since we don't share rooms and stuff.

well, our performing arts group mostly just cheer each other on Grin

If you want that you gotta need someone to write a great piece for everyone, you cant just take some silly pop song and make everyone play melody band's gonna own us in volume (cos if we play loud it wont be nice)
and in the end its gonna be gossips and fighting again..

Actually, i was in CO in primary school (Zhongruan player here! (: ) and band member in secondary sch (which is currently.) *Since my sch don't have CO T_T so i joined band.*

I can see why there will always be conflicts between CO and Band.
Maybe cos' some school 's CO and band share the same room and percussion instrument.

But sometimes, we have no choice as school don't have the money to buy two seperate percussion instruments like timpani etc.
I think maybe 我们应该一人让一步, we all love music. ( i believe (: )

Or the members ( Band and CO ) can share the skills of playing ( most probarly some percussion instruments.) , encouraging each other 's performance maybe, and appreciate each other 's pieces.
I think the idea of having a combined performance of CO,band, choir and dance is cool! ^(o.o)^

of course,we have to put in actions in order to create PEACE between CO and band. ( meaning Chinese and Western music )

Sometimes, i wonder why schools' CCA (performing arts), only CO and band has conflicts, but why not Choir?
