Not to mention, at the recent National Chinese Music Competition, many members from NYCO won awards or were finalists in both soloist and ensemble categories. My ensemble had a total of 7 (out of 20) who were from NYCO. In fact, my section (apart from myself) were all NYCO musicians. In the end, we managed 1st runners-up, losing only to a very professional and outstanding orchestra. So yes, NYCO is up there with the top. And actually, Dunman High didn't fare that well...  |

However, for a better idea of the local CO scene, do turn up for events like the National Chinese Music Competition! If you guys thought SYF was good, then the NCMC will be absolutely mind-blowing. Dunman High has a very established quality control system within its orchestra. Secondarooy one members are not allowed to join combined rehearsals, probably to teach them humility and hone their basics. Most regular members (if not all) are required to undertake private lessons from their respective instructors. They are also expected to complete a series of individual grading examinations both in theory and practical.
The alumni, school and parental support is extremely strong. Semi-professional orchestras such as City Chinese Orchestra provide extra training for Dunman High's members.
As such, they are without much of a doubt, the most prominent secondary school orchestra locally. Of course, I believe that schools like Nanyang Girls and Catholic High are not too far behind.
omg. no wonder Dunman is so pro. but dont you think that this is too much for a school's CO? i mean, to put in effort for all that you do is good, but you wouldnt want to neglect your studies. nevertheless, if i were a part of them, i wouldnt want to tarnish my school's reputation too.  haha. |

but actually considering what Yuheng said, if you minus those schools which have private trainings(Dunman, HCI) and can only choose from those normal schools...
maybe its cat high and nyco

and yea most of nyco has got private lessons. but for xianyue most people have lessons under non-professional teachers. Not sure about the other sections tho.

HAHA GUESS! i am not in alfred's group. And yea, i do agree that NCMC would be mind-blowing if people think that this year's SYF was awesome. Anyone who has the tiem to watch NCM should really go and watch. For those who don't know, it is held biannually (which means the next one is next year) in the 1st two weeks of december |

relax. haha...didn't get to hear temasek that day but i think if the judges gave them a GWH, we should just accept that temasek improved alot, they put in hard work too. ya...and this is a forum, and everyone got different perspectives, so we cannot stop them from saying what they want. ya. but you can correct us if we say anything wrong. =) haha... NYCO is forever the love. =) |

i am not in the position to judge because i didn't hear day 2 at all but if they are in the opinion that temasek don't deserve it, then let them think so. all i heard was temasek played well but didn't deserve it compared to other schools in day 3. anyway, a gwh is a gwh and well done |
