Good point.

But from my experience, schools who didn't get the results they were aiming for or wanted will cry straight on the spot after the results came out. Eg RVCO this time round.

So I was quite surprised ZhongHua and Woodgrove was happy with Gold when I felt they should have gotten GWH Smiley

i'm glad you understand because...
maybe NYCO isn't in the place to say this, but really we were prepared not to get GWH, yes we would have cried if we didnt (omg no!), screamed in fear... but ultimately i think what is most important to us is the music that we have played, the moment onstage. x)

the medal is just an assurance of your position and music, but so what? no music, no CO, don't even need to think about the medal.

thanks for all your support for Zhonghua(: hmmm.well,Zhonghua is not happy with the results. because we worked our hearts out so as to achieve Gold With Honors this year. when we got gold, our hearts sank. but we still wanted to give the rest of our juniors support, so we cheered as happily as we could. but truth is, we arent.hmmm...

i'm sorry if i offended cchy fans or whatsoever, mayb it's jus our taste in co music. but whatever is the case, i still think that rv deserves a round of applause for their hardwork even tho they might hve missed gwh by a little bit.

jia you rvco and all other co in singapore  Grin

Heys! 'waybackintolove' I don't think anyone was offended at all la...
cchyco got NO fans one.
newly formed mah

A brief history of cchyco's syf in the past decade:

1. 2001 COP(about 20+ participants)
2. 2003 CANCELLED SYF for a year (about 0 members in CO LOL!)
3. 2004 hired a new group of instructors
4. 2005 SYF silver with choice piece 林中夜会 -____-
4. 2007 SYF gold with choice piece 长城随想...
5. 2009 den finally get gwh which many claims we do not deserve.

there's nothing impressive bout us so nobody really noticed cchyco..  Grin

its okay to point out problems, after all we're all here to learn,

to hear what we missed out, and also to see what we did good in and should continue to express.

true true.
We'll need to dig into CO history to find out.
plus,
What's the definition of a neighborhood school?
Do we decide by the name of the school?
CCHY's instructors considered them as neighborhood school also,
Its like everyone in the school lives in Yishun, Sembawang, Woodlands, no further.
haha.

Yup! I would say that this year the standard overall actually improved! After listening to SYF since 2005, I'm quite glad to say that the overall standards have really improved tremendously. =) One of them I would say is Katong Convent. For some personal reasons I actually started listening to their playing in SYF since 2005, and batch after batch, they never failed to surprise me. I guess technically there's certainly always room for more improvements, but the improvement itself over the years is something that I feel exceptionally touching. =)

Well, I guess RV is a pity. Their choice piece is great, but the dynamics in their set piece makes me feel like I'm riding a roller coaster. (Well, on a totally random note, maybe it's the curse of the choice piece, since they got gold also when they played the same choice piece in 2005 and got gold also).

CCHS(Y) is fabulous I would really say. I really do not think it's anything particular to do with the taste. What I really feel is that what they managed to do that others don't is that they really showed us what is really called 表演. And I really see so much confidence in them that it do not feel like they are in SYF, but rather they are putting up a splendid show for all of us. It just reminds me that performance is more than just playing the right notes and playing the score correctly. It's also about 表现 and 演绎.

Well, the spirit that they displayed still sort of strike me even after so many hours. Kudos to them! =)

Ya... Katong Convent really improved a lot !! Grin they should actually get Gold instead of Sliver... I still wondering why they get sliver -.-  Embarrassed Undecided

Katong Convent indeed put up a good show!
but here's my opinions:
I was back stage before that got on stage
and the KC percussionists looked very siann..
cheer up! its your big day!
How many chances do you get to participate in SYF?
take it as your last even if its not =D

I believe you girls have the skills and the musicality,
boost up your confidence, be sure of yourself
and be proud of your school!
Its really a pity you guys did'nt get what you all wanted
but look!
so many on the forum think you guys did great and deserve gold!
who cares bout the outward award as long as you guys enjoyed!
be your own judge and award yourself gwh if you did your best =)

I heard the performance back stage,
and to give a honest opinion from hearing KCCO over the stereo at backstage
(which might not be very accurate)

We can hear immaturity in yin she in most of the sections...
Maybe many are fairly new to their instruments but i what i had been complimenting
is the effort put up =D very well done!

Well, it wasnt really our best shot. :X I think that many were nervous. We did much better for our EMDD (Evening of Music, Dance and Drama), which was a school concert held on the 22nd. I think that it was becuz it was after SYF, and the seniors were leaving, so everyone just put in their all- and we got a really great performance then, compared to SYF.

So... I feel very disappointed, personally.

But thanks again to kimchi for that comment. I think we KCCOians really need to hear all these comments in order to improve! (:
