Quote from NCHSCO on April 24, 2009, 07:38:46 PM
in my opinion, i highly presume its a misunderstanding, for i'm the student conductor of NCCO. the teacher-in-charge is one of the disciplinary teacher in my school and perhaps she may be judge as stern but i felt otherwise. besides that, i cant deny the fact that she's very strict with us. however, she always taught us to be humble. our daji player also don't see themselves who can play well. lastly, i must emphasise again that this matter is perhaps a misunderstanding.

yeah.i think its just a misunderstanding.but, its over(:anws,u all aimed for a gold right?

please stop commenting on whether an orchestra was better than another, or whether any orchestra didn't deserve the award given.

when the comments come out then you won't even have to say anything any more. each orchestra has its own unique way of expressing itself and yeah well if people can't appreciate it thats just too bad - the judges do, and thats what mattered more at that point in time.

i think that all schools that got GWH are around the same - there's no basis for music other than feeling, rhythm and accuracy. in the end it all comes to down to that 12 minutes or so on stage, where loads of things could happen for the better or the worse.

so don't be biased when you say whether an orchestra deserved it or not..that 12 minutes does make a lot of difference.

and even though loads of you say that temasek or ngee ann or evergreen doesn't deserve their GWH, its over. at least spare a thought for what they're feeling.

i agree that that the few weren't listening. slow? we had a freaking loud and fast kuaiban in the middle. and the first part wasn't slow, it was emotional.
[/quote]

hey there, dont think you are too contradicting? say that we shouldnt comment, but you commented too, isnt it? LMAO. its a forum, and its meant for people to voice out their comments, there isnt any wrong with that i guess. and the comments arent biased, its just their thoughts of how they feel regarding the songs the COs played? And so what if its only the judges that likes the song. As someone who loves music and plays music, we play for everyone, not just the judges aint it the truth? We needed recognition from the judges, yes, but sometimes dont you think the judges are biased too? The beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Some songs the judges may like it but the others dont. But some songs, EVERYONE else love it, just except the judges. And its not that we dont spare a thought for what they're feeling. why dont the judges spare a thought for what we're feeling when the whole competition grows more and more unfair?. [dont be offended though]

Well, 嘎达梅林 is really a nice song. Zhonghua played it before in 2007 syf and gotten a gold. in my opinion i actually thinkzhonghua's arrangement and edition of the song is better than that of hwa chong in 2009 syf. i'm not sure whether your guys heard zhonghua played it in 2007 or not but that's just my opinion, no offence intended.

i guess the judges have different criteria so congrats to hwa chong for clinching gwh anyway. and zhonghua had performed 湘西风情 well too! Cheesy

I think nan chiau got Silver cuz they chose the wrong choice piece....but they probably chose their choice peice before they knew who the judges were so perhaps, it's just their luck >.< (xia fei yun conducted yue er gao before, but by the time snco found out that he's the conductor, sn alr chose yue er gao as their choice piece)

furthermore, if luo wei lun the composer didn't think that nan chiau expressed what he wanted to express when he wrote that piece....>.<

their daji was really good (my senior said that the daji wasn't following the conductor) but...i'm not that pro and i couldn't tell ^^;; so i'm not too sure about that.

I think that if woodgrove and zhonghua had just played on other days, they just might have gotten GwH, i really enjoyed listening to them.

day 3 2nd session was just....wow.
(and i thought being before dhs and ngee an was scary - it was, but the 2nd session, i feel, was scarier ^^;)

YES YES i agreed too. praises flew across everywhere for woodgrove and zhonghua especially woodgrove. I loved the songs woodgrove played too. Its full of feelings and emotions. They should have gotten gwh instead of gold. yes, the last day was very competitive. having so many saps school performing together in the morning is already very impressive im sure it frighten every schools in the afternoon, having 5 golds , 3 gwh just in the morning! interesting! but having heard the afternoon session, my jaw dropped. How could a neighbourhood school like woodgrove done so well than so many sap schools?! unbelievablely surprised i've got. their song touches me.

when he mentioned 'comment', he was referring to discussing whether an orchestra deserved/did not deserve what they were awarded. and yijing did not do that, and did not contradict himself.

yes, it is a forum. we discuss. but we discuss constructively. a hundred pages long of forum discussion on how an orchestra deserves otherwise is absolutely pointless. if you truly love music, as your name indicates, a medal is irrelevant. think about it.

and if you have any issue about the judges being unfair, please make a formal complaint.

haha hey yeah zhonghua and huazhong [hwachong's hanyupinyin, not bad eh?] shared the same dizi teacher last year [not anymore though] and he was telling us about it. zhonghua kinda focused more on the kuaiban -  especially from bars 300-384. that was a really hard part for guanyue.

heh i guess thats more to your preference, but we kinda wanted to focus more on the "obvious" areas where everyone could see and feel the yinyuegan and the rhythm. but thanks for your congrats (:

Please do not give comments that is not good about the other schools. Especially rumours. Recently I heard a lot of rumours about some schools getting GWH. Spare a thought for the ppl and ya the results are out so you cant change it.

Perhaps you feel that some schools could have gotten better, but afterall competition needs to give the awards to the schools. Look forward to e next SYF is more impt.

We should not doubt the potential of other COs. We should not criticize and demoralize them.  For the six schools that got GWH on day3, congratulations. =D

Let's move away from the whole criticism thing, it's too depressing ):
Just keep in mind that constructive criticism is good, and that we should talk about how good everyone was Tongue

I can't comment on the rest, since I didn't watch any orchestras, but I think that for our song (嘎达梅林) the paragraphing was quite... cool. I could actually picture the story that our conductor told us against the backdrop of the music - about the Mongol warrior. In case people were falling asleep at the first paragraph, I hope the sound of battle commencing woke you up Tongue (Bar 93).

Personally believe that the dizi solos were not as good as the Cellobass part after 93 Cheesy take that, yijing!

I play the erhu, and I admit that sometimes I will play off tune too. But however, no one is perfect, and everyone makes mistakes occasionally, so I think that constructive feedbacks are welcomed but not excessive critisism.

though i knew the background of the piece, the actual story was told to me by mr yeh tsung. it was the way his facial expressions and conducting shaped the music. that evening when we performed gada. truly something i will never forget as a young musician. the man's really a great conductor.
